NAND Astable Multivibrator Circuit with Adjustable Frequency

4:00 AM
The circuit can be explained like this. Let us say output is 0 (pin 3) to start with. Hence output at pin no. 6 (the other NAND gate) will have to be at 1.
The capacitor C7 or C8 or C9, whichever is selected, charges to the polarity shown. After a time interval the capacitor fully charges up, the input of the first NAND gate becomes zero, and hence its output changes stage from 0 to l. Thus the flip-flop action continues. With the above selected values of capacitors, the output  frequency is 0.1 Hz, 25 Hz and 450 Hz. For any other  frequency required suitable values can be selected.  The circuit is versatile. lf the selector switch is not a ganged one, then by suitably selecting the capacitors in each switch we can either obtain outputs with equal on-off periods or else with unequal on-off periods.
